FEATURED ARTIST HISTORY OF THE ARTIST Born in Paris on 7th May 1933, Jean Kevorkian is one of France's more successful contemporary painters. He is self-taught and began painting at an early age, encouraged by his parents. His last name suggests Armenian roots, but his life and education have been entirely French. His landscapes and seascapes convey his deep love of nature, with the rich hues of flowers and the elusive reflection of light. He is a supersensitive artist who paints with extraordinary knowledge and a dynamic sense of colour, his main object being to capture the fleeting beauty of life and express his serene enjoyment of nature. Many years of his life have been spent in Brittany, in the region of St Malo and Cape Finistere, which has developed his interest and talent in marine subjects. His particular skill in conveying the atmosphere of the changing seasons distinguishes his work: The Ile de France, the banks of the Seine and Oise in Autumn and Winter are favourite themes. He has received many prizes for his painting in France, including Firsts in 1978, 1980 and 1981 with a `Diplome d'Honneur' in 1980. Exhibitions of his paintings have been mainly in Paris and the provinces of France although examples of his work can be found in private collections in many countries. The mastery of his work and his full range of colours can’t fail to appeal to those who are in love with nature.
